Hello, My name is Kayla and we are going to discuss topics today regarding your newly prescribed drug today Lithium, which is a Mood Stablizing Drug.
Thank You, I am looking forward to it. I have never been on this prescription before, therefore I have several questions.
How exactly does the drug Lithium work in my body? What is going on?
Lithium alters the sodium ion transport in the nerve cells which causes a shift in catecholamine metabolism. It essentially helps with your Bipolar disorder by strengthening the receptors in your brain that involve parts of your brain that include mood, thinking and behavior.
Do I need to worry about any side/ adverse effects when taking this drug?
Unfortunately, like most drugs to does come with possible adverse/ side effects such as GI discomfort, tremors, confusion, somnolence, seizures, and cardiac dysrhytmias.
