Storyboard Text

  • Yup, that's the one. I'm going to bring shower caps for our shoes and gloves. Maybe some hospital masks too..
  • Kayla, right after this Medicare meeting we have a home eval. Remember Ida from last week?
  • Oh yeah! Wasn't she the one who had a stroke? And you told me no one has been home for weeks to clean up after her three dogs....?
  • Oh my, what are we going to walk into? Still, I am excited to go on a home eval!
  • Well it doesn't LOOK too dirty in here...but oh my gosh that smell is horrendous. I can't believe someone has to live here!
  • Later that day...
  • Alright Ida, show us where your bedroom is so we can see what modifications need to be made
  • I like my bed where it is, it's always been here. And my dressers all have clothes in them that I need.
  • These do seem like a lot of modifications to have to do, I can see why she wants to keep things as they are! But I suppose it's what's safest if OT recommends it!
  • Well, I am just letting you know that these are my recommendations. You need these grab bars so that you can get to the bathroom and the dressers have to be moved to do that.
  • So, Ida, i am recommending that you move the bed this other way so that you can fit your wheelchair down the hallway to get to the bathroom. Aiso, these dressers need to be moved out of here to put grab bars along the wall
  • So you see, as therapists, all we can do is recommend. It's up to the patient in the end if they follow through. And sometimes, it is all too much for them to have to adjust at home and they end up having to stay long term at the nursing home.
  • Yes, unfortunately her insurance cut her. And I don't think it safe for her until she gets those modifications in place. Luckily her family is willing to help her out until then.
  • On the way back...
  • That is fortunate she has family support, but what if someone didn't have family willing to help? They probably would have to stay long term, which is kind sad! I'm sure that would be hard for people to accept not going back home!
  • Oh wow, do you think Ida will be safe at home then? Isn't she going home tomorrow?? How can she be ready in time?
