  • Perseus grew up on a small island. He was strong and young. While living on the island he became a fisherman.
  • Meeting with a Mentor
  • Polydectes tells Perseus that he wants a specific gift. This gift/task requires a lot of bravery. Polydectes wants Perseus to bring back the head of Medusa. Medusa is the horrible Gorgon.
  • Crossing the Threshold
  • Perseus did doubt his promise to get Medusas head. He knew this task was impossible by himself. Perseus still persevered and went through with the promise.
  • Test, Allies, and Enemies
  • Perseus did not know where Medusa lived. All of a sudden he saw a bright light. It was Hermes. Hermes graciously offered to be Perseus' guide and also give advice. The challenge Perseus was faced with was now irresistible.
  • Once Perseus saw Hermes his perspective changed on the task. Hermes coming was an awesome gift to Perseus. He left and went to get Medusa's head.
  • There were three things Hermes told Perseus he must have to complete the task. He needed winged sandals, a magic wallet, and a cap which would make Perseus invisible. These items are guarded by the nymphs. The Gray Women are the only people that know where to find them.
