  • Marley's chain symbolizes all of the bad things he did in his life and now because of what he did in life he has to wear the chain.

  • I am in the presence of the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come?
  • When Scrooge goes out onto the streets people walking tend to avoid him because of his infamous cold nature. Even those who cannot see him are guided by "service" dogs to corridors away from him. The reactions of people to Scrooge indirectly characterize him as being mean and cold-hearted.
  • Indirect Characterization
  • The ghost's generosity towards the poor exemplifies the theme of you don't need much to be a good person.
  • Internal Conflict
  • There was a boy singing a Christmas carol at my door last night. I should like to have given him something
  • The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come symbolizes Scrooges death and poor future if he continues with his current ways.
  • Because Scrooge kept the coal box in his own room and didn't allow Bob Cratchit to use it, his actions indirectly characterize him as being selfish.
  • Scrooge is showing regret for treating people the way he did and for his decision he made only the night before.
