  • When the 13 year old peasant girl Joan of Arc heard voices and visions of the saints Michael, Catherine, and Margaret suddenly came to her. Joan's voices gave her a daunting task of helping Charles. Also to free France from English.
  • Is God trying to get me to save the French?
  • Joan's voices informed her that she should lead Charles to Reims and see that he was a crowned king. Tensions within the borders were also  high, as France itself was deeply divided. The feudal lords of the powerful province of Burgundy helped the English seize northern France. Those loyal to Charles controlled the southern half of the country.
  • I should make him King.

  • In 1429, Joan led a French army to victory in the Battle of Orleans. The following year, the "Maid of Orleans" was captured by English allies. She predicted that priests would find one for her in a nearby church , and sure enough, they dug behind the altar and discovered a sword.

  • French troops, now with a king to follow and tried of fighting, were deserting Joan's army. At first, the french held their own, but thousands of English soldiers soon joined the battle. The Burgundian leaders captured her and threw her into prison, and Charles no effects to rescue the woman to whom he owed so much.
  • Why did you have to put me in prison?
  • At her trail the warning didn't prevent Bishop Cauchon  from drilling Joan with questions. The court made 70 accusations against Joan. In may to save her life, she signed a confession.
  • I have to sign this document or else I'll die.
  • A huge crowd gathered in Roven on May 30, 1431 to watch Joan be burned at the stake. In 1920, Joan was recognized as a catholic saint. She inspired her country and helped to restore the throne to a French King. She also proved that woman could be brave and effective leaders.
  • I'll stay calm and trust in God...
