  • Samuel de Champlain was born on August 13, 1574. He was born in Hiers-Brouage France. His mothers name was Margueritend Le Roy is father was Antoine Champlain

  • Champlains Occupations were navigator, cartographer, draughtsman, soldier, explorer, geographer, ethnologist, diplomat, and chronicler

  • In 1603, Champlain made his first trip to North America, to the St. Lawrence River to explore and establish a French colony. In 1604, he returned to northeastern Canada, and over the next four years became the first to map the North Atlantic Coast.
  • Accomplishments
  • Champlain discovered the lake named for him (Lake Champlain, on the border of northern New York state and Vermont, named in 1609) and was important in establishing and administering the French colonies in the New World
  • Champlain suffered a severe stroke in October 1635, and died on 25 December 1635, leaving no immediate heirs. Jesuit records tell us he died in the care of his friend and confessor Charles Lallemant
  • He founded Quebec City on July 3, 1608 and is important because he made the first accurate map of the coast.
