  • We can't socailize with them...
  • Atticus help me I'm innocent!
  • You two need to treat everyone equally.
  • But why father no one else does?
  • Maycomb is a southern town that is located in Alabama. The 1930's was a time of struggle, with high unemployment rates and money was scarce. This was also a time with high rates of racism. The "whites" and "blacks" did not socialize.
  • Scout you must act lady like.
  • The town was separated between the two races. The "whites" beleived to only socialize with others that were more superior than the "blacks". This is seen in the mocking bird when a "black" is accused of rapping a white girl.
  • Maycomb Public School
  • Atticus wanted to raise his children different than the social norm was in Maycomb. He wanted Jem and Scout to treat everyone equal, no matter the colour of their skin tone. Atticus was asked to defend the "black" who was charged with rape. (Page.187)
  • BANG!
  • Being a young age without your mother Finch was lacking a primary agent of socialization. This is where Calpurnia comes in. Calpurina played the mother role in the lives of Scout. Without a mother Scout grew up around boys, this developed boy like traits in her. This was until Calpurina.
  • Miss Caroline was a new teacher to the town of Maycomb. Not ever being to the town before Miss Caroline had not been primary socialized. For example she never knew that Ewell's never attend the first day of school. Scout and Miss Caroline work with each other as there agents of secondary socialization.
  • In the end Tom died because he wasn't given a fair chance because the colour of his skin. He ended up being shot for a crime that he did not commit. Tom was the mockingbird, he demonstarted intrepidity.
