"I have fought here three long years to bend these stiff-nerved people to me"
Danforth reputation is on the line when people asked him to postpone the executions. He already hanged twelve if he doesn't hang the rest he will look bad.
How is the theme relevant to today?
Proctor doesn't want his name tarnished in the town. If he signs it his kids won't be able to to be proud of there last name. He wants to make sure his reputation is kept even if it means he will die. He believes that all he has left is his name.
"Is that document a lie?...."
Parris wants to make sure Abigail didn't tarnish his name that he worked for. He wants to make sure he keeps the reputation he has gotten from the town.
People today still worry about there reputation. They want to make sure people know that they are a good person. People want to keep there reputation the way it is. Not as many people get killed to keep there reputation as much as they did back then.
