  • On May 10, 1775, the first meeting of the Second Continental Congress was held. This time around, Georgia joined.
  • They continued to discuss issues with the King and British Parliament.
  • Great idea!! Lets put George in charge!
  • They decided to form a continental army and put George Washington in charge of it.
  • I think we need to form an army to fight the British.
  • In attempts to tell the King what rights the colonists wanted, they sent a petition (The Olive Branch Petition) to the King doing that exactly. The King refused to read it and said that the colonists had started a rebellion.
  • The Olive Branch Petition
  • The colonists finally decided to speak up and declare their independence from Britain. They came up with the document "The Declaration of Independence" and anyone who agreed with what was stated signed it. They finally got what they wanted.
  • Overall, the Second Continental Congress was very successful. The colonists were able to create an army to fight the British, and separate themselves from Britain.
