  • EXPOSITION
  • CONFLICT
  • RISING ACTION
  • It was a summer day in the small village and the children of the village gathered stones for the lottery that day. The parents gathered their children and got ready to head to the Lottery that was conducted by Mr. Summers. 
  • CLIMAX
  • The small village is preparing for a lottery where whoever wins, gets stoned or hit with stones. They will open a paper and whoever gets the black dot "wins". 
  • FALLING ACTION
  • Everyone in the town starts to gather and pick out of the black box to see who will get the black dot paper. Mr.Summers calls the Hutchinson family, Delacroix family, Jones, Clark, Dunbar and more. He continues to call names and and the Lottery has begun. The people of the village  waited to see who would win. 
  • RESOLUTION
  • Bill Hutchinson opens up his piece of paper it is blank. Everyone realizes Tessie, his wife, is the one with the black dot paper. Mr.Summers confirms it and everyone starts to talk about how she "won" but actually is just getting hit with stones that they children collected earlier. 
  • The stones were already piled together from when the children gathered them earlier. They grabbed the stones and all got closer to Tessie. Now she was in the middle of a cleared space. 
  • A rock hit Tessie on the side of the head and everyone huddled over to her. Old man Warner told the people to get closer and they got up upon her as she yelled that it wasn't fair.
