  • Second, we have Copernicus. Copernicus was born in Poland in 1473 and died in 1543. He was a lawyer, physician and the Catholic church administrator.
  • He wrote the De revolutionbus orbium coelestium (On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres) published in 1543 dedicated to the Pope.
  • Copernicus system was a heliocentric model. This meant that all of the planets moved in perfect circle and not in epicycles.
  • He believed that the sun was the center and all of the other planets orbited around it.
  • Copernicus model explained retrograde motion as one planet catches up to another planet and passes it, it looks like the planet passed looks like it moved backwards.
  • Tycho's had lost his nose in a math-fueled duel. He later had the tip of his nose replaced with a gold fitting.
  • Third, we have Tycho Brahe.  He was born 1546 in Sweden.
  • Tycho had observed a new star called the Stella Nova. He believed that the heavens were changing.
  • Tycho also proved that celestial spheres can't exist because of the Comets.
  • The Tychonic system was both a Geocentric and Heliocentric model. This meant that all the planets, except Earth, orbited around the Sun, but then the Sun orbitied around Earth.
