  • Characters: Bob, Jimmy, Undercover Cop. Setting: New York, 10:00 p.m; early 1900s. Tone: mysterious.
  • Climax
  • Hardware Store
  • Jimmy must decide if he should arrest his friend or not.
  • Falling Action
  • Jimmy sees a man by a hardware store. He goes and investigates what he's doing. The man tells him he is waiting  for an old friend. The man calls himself Bob, and says that he is fulfilling a promise he made twenty years prior. Him and his friend agreed that they would meet here to talk about their lives no matter what their situation was.
  • Resolution
  • Neighborhood Bakery
  • Jimmy leaves, and a man comes around the corner, pretending to be him. Bob quickly links arms with him and they start talking. What Bob doesn't know, is that this is an undercover cop. It isn't until Bob and that undercover cop go under an electric light, is that Bob realizes that he is not Jimmy.  
  • An undercover police officer gives Bob a note from Patrolman Wells. The cop tells him to read it.    
  • Bob: I was at the appointed place on time. When you struck the match to light your cigar, I saw it was the face of the man wanted in Chicago. Somehow I couldn't do it myself, so I went around  and got a plainclothes man to do the job. Jimmy

  • In the note, we learn that Jimmy was the first cop, but he couldn't arrest Bob himself, so he got someone else to do it.
