  • Oswald was born in 1877 He lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada
  • In 1887 Oswald and his family moved to the USA
  • Oswald graduated from Colgate in 1900 and then graduated from medicine in 1904
  • Oswald was joined by a new young researcher to help him with his research
  • Nice to meet you. I'm Colin Macleod
  • In 1941 Macleod decided to leave the project. A postdoctoral took his place. His name was Maclyn McCarty
  • In 1944 they discovered that DNA carries a cell's genetic material and can be altered through transformation
  • They called the discovery the "Transforming Principle"
  • Avery, Maclead, & McCarty submitted their work to the Journal of Experimental medicine
  • Oswald retired in 1948 and died in 1955 at the age of 78
