She seems like somebody I could become close friends with.
The Bell Jar
Welcome to the big city Esther, my name is Betsy!
After a long night of being out, Doreen arrives home and begins to feel sick.
You've been out for a while Doreen do you feel okay?
Author: Sylvia Plath
No, I think I'm going to be sick!
Esther attends a lovely banquet given by the Ladies' Day Magazine. She stuffs her face with caviar and avocados stuffed with crab meat.
After the banquet, Betsy and Esther get in a cab to go home when they start to feel ill and throw up midway through the ride back. Esther wakes up to Doreen trying to feed her soup.
Apparently, the avocados stuffed with crab meat gave you food poisoning.
Buddy Willard goes to Esther's dorm room to drop off a letter for her to open. They start talking about how Buddy has a date to prom for his university, and Esther gets jealous because she likes him and wants him to ask her to the dance. He asks her to open it, but she makes it up that she has a date with somebody and she was running late. She opens the letter and sees that it says, 'Will you go to the prom with me?' Filled with excitment she decides to go with him.
Okay I will, but I have to leave for a date, so I will open it later.
I want you to open this letter.
Wow, Constantine, this is a nice view!
At the dance, Buddy and Esther decide to just be friends, and later on Esther finds a man named Constantine over the phone. Esther had never slept with a man before, so she decided that he would be the first. They go to his apartment one night and sit on the balcony and talk about how difficult but similar their lives are. Esther gets tired and goes inside to bed. Constantine later on joins her, but falls asleep. Early on in the morning, Constantine wakes her up and drives her home.
