  • James Madison as president
  • Hello, I'm James Madison. I am the fourth president of the United States.
  • Impressment and Native American Resistance
  • I have taken your ship, so there is nowhere to go. Come American sailor, so I can bring you to England as a prisoner.
  • Phase 1- Battles in the Great Lakes and Canada
  • I am Oliver Hazard Perry commander of the US Navy in Lake Eerie and we have defeated the British.
  • James Madison was the fourth president of the United States. He served from 1808 to 1816. In his term he asked Congress for a Declaration of War.
  • Phase 2- Francis Scott Key and Fort McHenry
  • I, Francis Scott Key, wrote the Star Spangled Banner you still sing today.
  • British ships attacked US ships that were making foreign trade routes, causing a constant disruption in foreign trade. Then they would capture the US sailors and force them into the British navy. Another problem at this time was the Native American resistance, led by Tecumseh. The British allied with them and provided them with guns so they can attack the US in the Northwest Territory.
  • Phase 3- Andrew Jackson and the Battle of New Orleans
  • I, Andrew Jackson, have defeated you, claiming the biggest victory of this war.
  • Oliver Hazard Perry and the US Navy in Lake Eerie defeated the British ships in the Great Lakes. In the Battle of Thames, William Henry Harrison defeats the British and Tecumseh dies. This ends the Native American resistance.
  • Effects of the War
  • The industry has grown drastically since the War of 1812!
  • At Fort McHenry the British seiged the US fort and cannoned them for 13 hours straight. The fort still stood, and the battle inspired Francis Scott Key to write the Star Spangled Banner.
  • In the Battle of New Orleans the Americans were outnumbered by 500 but won with only 71 US casualties and a startling 2000 British casualties. The attack was led by Andrew Jackson, who has become a national war hero.
  • Because we were at war with the British, all the British imports were stopped. This increased the American industry and manufacturing because the US couldn't rely on foreign goods, they had to make their own.
