  • Silent Bartering
  • Silent trade is when you trade with someone, avoiding meeting them face to face and no communication.  The Kumbi and the Wongarans used silent trade in Africa.  Silent trade was used so that they avoided a language barrier, there was no conflict, and the Wongarans gold mine a secret
  • First the middleman sets up the time and location for the trade between the traders and the Wongarans.
  • Then the group of traders would go to the location and set down their goods.
  • They would walk several miles away from the trading location and a  drum would be hit.
  • Once the drum is hit the Wongarans travel by boat to the location.
  • They look at what the traders set down and the Wongarans put how much gold dust they think is enough.  They too travel several miles away from the site and a drum is hit again
