Marie-Antoinette married King Louis XVI of France in order to strengthen alliance. She lived a life of luxury, even in economically troubling times for the kingdom, and was against changing the monarchy.

As the revolution began, Marie and Louis attempted to flee to Austria but were captured and taken back to Paris. For this, Marie was deemed a traitor.
A revolution formed against the monarchy, with a lot of blame put on Marie, and in December, Louis XVI was put on trial for treason and executed. Nine months later, Marie lost custody of her son and was accused of incest and convicted of treason. She was executed at the hands of the guillotine at 37 years old.
