  • Be specific about the praised behaviors and reinforce this behavior with your feedback.
  • Jerry, I really like that you have sat so well during our mat time.   You kept you hands to yourself and respected everyone's space.  You didn't shout out once.  Good job!
  • Use praise to link the outcomes of an assignment to students' efforts.
  • Lyn, I just checked your narrative and you clearly desribed events using the correct transtions words. You paid such good attention in class yesterday and during break, you came to ask me to check your planning . All of your hard work has produced an  excellent piece of writing.  
  • Talk explicitly and in detail about the strategies a student has used. Comment on which strategies were helpful, and which were not.
  • You've written a great opening sentence and by asking a question you show that you understand how to hook your readers.  There's three correctly sequenced events, but you I would like to know how you were feeling at the time, describing emotions is a great way to add detail.  I am excited to read about how your story ends!
