I reckon if he wanted us to know, he'da told us. If he was proud of it, he'da told us
Jem is finally realizing that what him, Dill and Scout did was very immature and he is voicing his opinion to her.
Jem is telling Scout to not go and tell the school that Atticus wanted them to know he would've told them. He is starting to understand that somethings are better left unsaid.
Jem reads to Mrs. Dubose because he cut her camelia flowers and while days and weeks are passing by he is starting to realize that Mrs. Dubose was entitled to her own opinion and that he couldn´t act out because of what somebody else thinks.
