Storyboard Text

  • I VOTE FOR JOHN ADAMS! HE WILL BE A BETTER PRESIDENT!
  • Absolutely!
  • Of course!
  • Okay!
  • No problem.
  • I couldn't have won without your support. Thanks Clay.
  • As a 'thank you' you will definitely be my secretary of state.
  • Cheaters.
  • You both teamed up! This is Corruption!
  • Henry Clay fully supported Adams in the House vote, which caused Adams to win the election.
  • Remember to vote for me in the next election. I will represent the common people!
  • He was one of us once! He can help us!
  • John Adams made Clay his Secretary of State after he won the election.
  • Many Jackson supporters felt that since Adams made Clay his secretary, Clay and Adams had made a deal during the election. Adams faced charges of "corrupt bargain" throughout his presidency.
  • James, Henry, you are going to have to leave. Your replacement will be Alexander, my loyal supporter.
  • Jackson worked hard for 4 years to win the next election. His background helped him win lots of votes, since he was the child of a poor farmer couple once. People saw him as a really successful man because of the way he got past his hardships.
  • Jackson did win the election of 1828 but his beloved wife, Rachel, died of a heart attack shortly after. Jackson blamed campaign attacks and said they ruined her reputation. He said she would "rather be a doorkeeper at the house of God than...live in that palace at Washington."
  • Jackson followed something known as the spoils system where he replaced many government officials with his own supporters. He claimed he was breaking up one group's hold on the government, he was not being corrupt.
