  • Hello everyone. Today we are going to go through why mitosis is the best phase for reproduction. mitosis is how cells reproduce. This is how your body is able to survive. These cells are exactly the same.
  • Good morning everyone. Today we are going to talk about why meiosis is the better phase for reproduction. Meiosis is the reproduction of a new human being to increase our worlds population. These cells are different and not identical.
  • In interphase of mitosis the cells are copied and organelles get bigger. This is also the cells resting point before the real process begins.
  • In interphase of meiosis the cells grow and copy. Each cell has 2 sister chromatids joined by a centromere. This is also where crossing over happens.
  • In prophase the nucleolus goes away and centrioles begin to move.
  • In prophase 1 the chromosomes condense and form homologous chromosomes. This is the longest phase unlike mitosis which has interphase as the longest phase.
  • In metaphase the chromatids line up. The membrane goes completely away and spindle fibers begin to form. The centromere attaches to the spindle fibers.
  • In metaphase 1 homologous chromosomes line up in the center of the cell and once again, the spindle fibers attach to the centromere.
  • In anaphase the sister chromatids separate to opposite poles and spindle fibers shorten to pull them there. In telophase spindle fibers dissolve and the nucleolus begins to disappear.
  • In anaphase 1 homologous chromosomes separate to different sides of the cell. In telophase 1 the nuclear membrane forms around the cell and divides it into two. In telophase 2 it divides into four cells.
  • The two phases are different because mitosis is asexual reproduction and meiosis is sexual reproduction. Mitosis is haploid and meiosis is diploid. The similarities are they are both a way of reproduction. They also have the same phase names.
  • Mitosis is important because it is how cells reproduce. Meiosis is important because a gamete will form a zygote. This then has 22 somatic cells and one sex cell. This will then grow into a human baby.
