Storyboard Text

  • Lords who ruled over the land and peasants lived in large manors under the protection of knights.
  • Peasants lived in one roomed huts with their family and animals. Close quarters led to easy spread of disease, which caused many deaths.
  • Peasants and serfs, who were bound to the land, worked long tireless hours from dawn to dusk. They did manual labor in the fields or worked for the lord.
  • Unless given permission by the lord, peasants never left the manor, and when they did it wasn't more than a few miles.
  • Peasants and Lords were tied by their mutual responsibilities. Peasants did their work and paid the Lords fees on several occasions, such as holidays or marriages.
  • In return of their fees and labor, Lords provided peasants with some land of their own and protection in the case of warfare.
