  • When the hurly-burly’s done, When the battle’s lost and won.
  • When the hurly-burly’s done, When the battle’s lost and won.
  • That will be ere the set of sun.
  • When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain?
  • Go, pronounce his present death, and with his former title greet Macbeth.
  • All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!
  • All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!
  • All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!
  • This is the first scene and the witches meet and discuss their "prophecy". They speak of where they will meet again and mention talking to Macbeth later on.
  • Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full Of direst cruelty.
  • The captain describes the battle and how valiantly Macbeth and Banquo fought. The Thane of Cawdor is sentenced to death for treason and Macbeth is given his title.
  • We will proceed no further in this business.
  • Art thou afeard To be the same in thine own act and valor As thou art in desire?
  • The three witches deliver Macbeth's and Banquo's prophecies and then leave. Ross and Angus then enter and announce Macbeth Thane of Cawdor.
  • Lady Macbeth learns of the prophecy and knows King Duncan will come that night. She prays to anyone listening that they will help her be as ruthless as she needs to be to acheive her goals.
  • Macbeth gives a long speech about why he shouldn't murder Duncan. Then his wife comes in and when he tries to back out, calls him a coward. He gives in and they hatch a plot to murder Duncan before the night is over.
