Storyboard Text

  • The Finch family live in a small town named Macomb, in Alabama. They are living in the time period of the great depression; however, they are not struggling to survive. Atticus, the father is a lawyer, and he has two children, Jem and Scout.
  • Aunt Alexandra is the aunt of Jem and Scout. She is very prejudice between the social classes in Maycomb. She forbids Jem and Scout from playing with Walter Cunningham because he is beneath their social status.
  • Though the Cunninghams are from the low class, they still do pay back whatever used or borrowed from others. Even if the pay back is not money, they find a way to repay others through goods, showing that not all poor people are dishonest.
  • Please accept this crockersack full of turnip greens as my pay back
  • As stated by Jem, "There are four kinds of people in the world. There's the ordinary kind like us and the neighbours, the kind like the Cunninghams out in the woods, and the kind like the Ewell's down at the dump." The Ewell's demonstrate an example of social class inequality. They are the lowest of the low.
  • There are also the kinds like the "Negroes". As stated by Jem. Even though Tom Robinson did not commit the crime, he is found guilty and is being punished because he is an african american in the 1930's.
  • I am being punished for something I didn't do.
  • Social inequality is the existence of unequal opportunities and rewards for different social positions or statuses within a group or society. People are given unequal chances to excel in life, due to their social class status.
