IN 1774 12 of the 13 colonies met in the first continental congress
The wrote a declaration of rights and grievances & sent it to King George III
King George III was not happy and considered the congress men traitors.
In 1775 British and American troops fight in the Battle of Lexington and Concord
2nd continental congress met on what to do next.
Since the colonies aren't getting anything out of there relationship with England it's "common sense" to become independent.
In January of 1776 Thomas Paine's Pamphlet "common Sense" came out
Declaration Of Independence That all men are created equal That all men have some rights given to them by God That among these rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
