On November 6, !860, Abraham Lincoln won the presidential election for the democrats. Southerners were upset and later seceded from the union.
Battle of Antietam
April 12, 1861 confederate forces fired on the union's Fort Sumter. Te confederate Army won the battle, and began the Civil War.
Emancipation Proclamation
July 21, the first major battle of the civil war began. The battle ended with a northern retreat and a southern victory.
Lincoln's Assasination
September 17, 1862, the battle of Antietam began. Generals Robert E. Lee and McClellan faced off, and ended with a Northern victory. Even with the union win, however, Lincoln fired McClellan for being too slow.
The Emancipation Proclamation was issued during the third year of the Civil War on January 1, 1863. It freed all slaves in the south, but was not listened to.
On April 14, 1865, Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theater.
