As king, Gilgamesh was very mean to his people. His people prayed to the sky god, Anu for help. Anu asked Aruru to make a beast-like man called Enkidu and released him in the forest. One day, a hunter spotted him near a waterhole. He ran to tell his father, and his father told Gilgamesh.
May I be your wife?
Enkidu and Gilgamesh did not like each other at first. They fought and fought, both equal in strength, untile Gilgamesh has finally won. They became friends.
They went into the Cedar Forest, where the demon, Humbaba, lives. They challenged HUmbaba to a fight. He almost won, but they prayed to the sun god for help. They killed Humbaba and cut down the forest.
The goddess of love, Ishtar, saw how handsome Gilgamesh is and was attracted to him. She asked him if she could be his wife. Gilgamesh refused. This angered Ishtar. She used the Bull of Heaven to destroy him and his city.
The pair teamed up to kill the bull. For killing the Bull of Heaven, Enkidu got sick. It was a punishment from the gods for killing the Bull of Heaven. Since Gilgamesh was part god, he was forgiven. Enkidu thought this was unfair and wished he was never found.
Gilgamesh soon realized he will die one day too. He began to search for eternal life. He heard of a man and his wife who were granted eternal life by the gods. He found the couple and they told him their secret to eternal life: a plant found at the bottom of the ocean. He found it, but it was stolen by a snake. He soon realized becoming immortal was useless and gave up. He left behind a great civilization.
