In this chapter, Coyotito and his family were faced with a setback, from a scorpion sting. A scorpion had managed to enter their brush house, and land on Coyotito. Once it had gotten onto Coyotito shoulder it had stung him, and had caused his parents to find a cure for the posion.

In this chapter Kino went looking for pearls, to offer the doctor some sort of payment, to help Coyotito. After looking for awhile Kino had found an extraordinary pearl. As soon as he and his family found the pearl they knew it was special.
In this chapter the news about the pearl had already spread, and most of the town had already known. The doctor had paid Kino and his family a visit, to check up on Coyotito. The doctor had given Coyotito ammonia and water to make sure the poison would not enter the baby's body again.
In this chapter Kino was planning on selling his most valuable item, his pearl. Kino visited many pearl dealers, but it had seemed that none of the dealers had know the true value of this special pearl. Kino eventually went home, planning on selling it the following day.
In this chapter many things took place. In the beginning Juana planned on throwing the pearl back, but well Juana was doing that Kino saw her and attacked her. Once he attacked Juana and got the pearl back, on his way back home a group of men began assaulting him. But Kino was able to stab one of them, and kill him. On their way back from this events they had realized their house was on fire, so they decided to flew town.
During this chapter Juana, Kino, and Coyotito were on their journey on moving to another town. Several days into their journey, they had realized trackers were following them. One night the trackers had set up camp near Kino and his family, so Kino made a plan to kill them. Sadly one of the trackers had heard Coyotito cry, and had shot him before Kino could get to the trackers. After this circumstance Kino and Juana decided to come back into town, and throw the pearl back into the ocean.
