  • Can you teach me how to make a sauce?
  • No, I don't really care what kind of sauce we make.
  • Ok. Go wash your hands first then we can begin.
  • Sure! Do you know what kind of sauce you want to make?
  • What kind of sauce is that?
  • Today I'm going to show you how to make a bechamel sauce.
  • It's a sauce that uses milk, butter, flour, but you can add nutmeg and paramesan cheese if you want to.
  • First you want to  melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in an equal amount of flour and cook the mixture for just under a minute - known as a roux.
  • Stir in milk, a little at a time, making sure to stir well so that no lumps form.
  • Can you make this into a different sauce?
  • Bring the mixture to the boil, stirring constantly, so that the mixture thickens and becomes glossy. Boil for a couple of minutes.
  • Yes, to make a cheese sauce, add grated cheese off the heat. Season well.
  • Is this the sauce?
  • Yes. Now you just serve it.
