  • Mexico Welcomes Large Numbers of Anglo-American Immigrants
  • La bienvenida a Texas (Welcome to Texas!)
  • We will not become loyal Mexican citizens

  • Now that am dictator the texans will be disarmed!
  • Battle of Gonzolas
  • If you want it come and take it
  • The Mexicans allowed the colonists to come to Texas in hope that they would become loyal Mexican citizens. The colonists became Mexican citizens, they continued to speak English, formed their own schools, and traded mainly with the U.S. The Mexicans later lost the land to the U.S. because the settlers took over. 
  • Battle of the Alamo
  • In 1835, the president of Mexico, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, declared himself dictator after overthrowing the constitution. He believed the Texans were going to succeed, so he ordered the Mexican army to take away their weapons whenever posible.
  • The Battle of San Jacinto
  • Remember the Alamo!
  • On October 2, 1935 the Mexican army arrived at Gonzales to sieze a cannon. Only 18 Texans were defending the cannon and the Texans told  Lieutenant Francisco de Castañeda to come and take the cannon. The Texans then turned the cannon around and fired it at the Mexicans who retreated.
  • Texas Joins the  United States
  • Texas is now part of the U.S.
  • On Febuary 23, 1836 a Mexian army of 1,800 to 6,000 men attacked the Alamo. When it was attacked there were a maximum of 200 men defending the Alamo. The Texans held out for 13 days until they were overwhelmed by the Mexican army. The Mexicans  of the men defending the Alamo.
  • Fire!
  • On April 20th, at 3:30 the Texan army attacked shouting remember the Alamo. The battle only lasted 18 minutes and the Texans captured 750 men and killed 650. Because the Texans destroyed thbridge used for retreat the Texans were able to bucher the Mexican army.
  • Attack!
  • Texas became a state on December 29, 1845. The problem with adding Texas was it caused and unbalance of free and slave states, which resulted in the delay in becoming a state. Texas being added to the Union broadened the issue of slavery.
