One day Tom was taking the shortcut home through the swamp, he got tired of walking so he sat down for a little bit then all of us sudden he looked up and saw a black man sitting across from him. They started to talk and the other man mentioned to Tom that there was a treasure hidden and he should go get it but Tom refuses. He then continued to walk home.
Celebration of the individual
When he got home he told his wife what had happened and she got mad at him for not going to get the treasure so she went out to find the black man to talk to him, but she never returned. So Tom went to go find her but all he found left of her was her heart and liver in her apron tied in a tree. He was happy to see this because his wife was abusive.
Importance of imagination
Then Tom went to go and find the black man and when he did they struck a deal. A few days after they made that deal Tom was sitting behind a desk in a counting-house. He worked there for a while and after time he became a very right and mighty man. Still in the back of his mind he though of the black man because after they made the deal he said that he would "have his due"(Washington 322). Then one day the black man came and took Tom walker, and then Tom was never seen again.
Emotions and feelings more important that reason
He was focused on himself and nothing else.
This couldn't actually happen in real life a horse couldn't run and make a fire behind it.
