Storyboard Text

  • After blinding Polyphemus, Odysseus and his men escape from the cave by hiding under the sheep that are leaving the cave. 
  • When Odysseus and his men safely arrive on the ship, Odysseus begins to taunt Polyphemus. “O Cyclops! Would you feast on my companions?... How do you like the beating that we gave you, you damned cannibal?” (Homer 668)
  • Polyphemus tries to chase Odysseus but cannot because of his recent blindness. 
  • Odysseus and his men sail away on their ship, but they scold him for not leaving the Cyclops alone. “Godsake, Captain! Why bait the beast again? Let him alone!” (Homer 669)
  • Polyphemus prays to his father, Poseidon, to get revenge on Odysseus. “...prayed Poseidon: ‘O hear me, lord, blue girdler of the islands..grant that Odysseus, raider of cities, never see his home”  (Homer 670)
  • Poseidon curses them with a storm that they must get through.
