I wanted to write a letter to grandma, but they told me i had to buy a stamp. I was unable to purchase paper because it was too much.
I knew that this would happen, we are suffering the pain because Britain went into too much debt from the war.
I'm sorry sir, we don't have the money to buy a better one.
Do you have a comfortable bed? I have checked every room in this house and not one is comfortable.
The French and Indian War happened from 1754-1763. This war was between France and its colonists and their Indian allies against Britain. The war was fought to find out who would gain control over North America. Many people wanted France to win but the British had help and won.
The stamp act occurred in 1765, it required the colonists to buy a stamp for every piece of paper they bought. They had to place the stamp act on the colonists to pay off debt from the war. It angered the colonists because they didn't believe the British Parliament had a right to tax them. The colonists started to boycott all British goods.
Lets find this tea and dump it out!
On top of the stamp act there was also the quartering act. The quartering act forced colonists to house a soldier if there wasn't any room for them elsewhere. This upset colonists because if they didn't have the money they still had to house them.
Are there any ideas of how to unite the patriots and loyalists?
The Boston Massacre happened because groups of colonists started protesting all of the taxes being forced on them. British soldiers opened fire on the colonists. This only cause the colonists to react poorly.
The Boston Tea Party was another way for the colonists to rebel against the King and Britain. There was a tax put on tea, which was called the tea act. What they did during the Boston Tea Party was they dumped about 92,000 pounds of tea in the water. How Britain reacted to this was they shut down the harbor and created a new set of rules, the intolerable acts.
The First Continental Congress was a meeting of twelve delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies. Georgia was the only delegate that didn't want to meet. They met at Carpenters' hall in Philadelphia. They met to organize colonial resistance to Parliaments Coercive Acts. They were able to succeed in everyone boycotting British goods.
