  • Of course! Thanks for having us.
  • Good morning, thanks for coming in today.
  • How is my child going in class so far this year? How did she go on her exams this term?
  • Sarah has shown enormous potential all year and she often shares great opinions and thoughts on different subject matter. Unfortunately, this hasn’t translated in to test scores. She most definitely has the talent and intelligence to do much better than she has but for some reason she didn’t display her talents on the tests.
  • It’s not so much that she did something wrong, it’s just that she may have been nervous on the exam or perhaps because there was a large writing part to the exam, she didn’t do as well as she is capable of.
  • We can also work together on this. When I update you on the work we are doing I will give a set time Sarah should do the homework. It would work best if you made sure she sticks to this time limit. By doing this we can try to simulate exams as much as possible so she gets used to working to a set time limit. The time maybe 5 or 10 minutes less than for other students but this will work well as it will help her practice doing work under time pressure.
  • What was the problem? Where did she go wrong?
  • Firstly, she just needs to relax. She has the intelligence and the skills to do well, she just needs to relax. I request that she comes to see me to talk through what happened on the exam. An honest reflection of what went well and what can be improved. Together we will try to get to the root of the problem.
  • What can she do to improve her scores?
  • Is there anything we can do at home to help our daughter?
  • We can work together to make sure that Sarah is working on the areas she needs to improve. I can update you weekly on the work we have done in class and the homework that has been assigned. You can make sure Sarah is doing her homework and I will check it at school to make sure she is working to her true potential.
  • What can be done about Sarah being nervous when taking exams?
  • This will hopefully help her feel more relaxed on future exams. I will also do this in class so she gets even more practice at working to a set time limit. We can work together to help her reach her potential on future tests.
