Process of Turning a Bill into a Law
By: Miss Vallace
I teach this to 5th graders! Let me explain.
I have a great idea for a new law! But I don't know how to turn it into one.
First, the idea for a law goes to a committee to review.
I've heard of that before!
Next, the Senate and House vote on the proposal for a new law.
I remember there has to be a majority of votes for it to go to the next step.
You're right! The next step is sending the bill to the president to sign.
What happens if he doesn't sign the bill?
Good question! It goes back to Congress. If 2/3 vote on it then it becomes law.
That is the process of turning a bill into a law!
Great! Thanks for your help!
