  • That would be great, I need my beauty sleep. But where?
  • I'm afraid my home only has two bedrooms. The girls can stay in the room. I guess the boys may camp out in here. I can provide you with blankets so you don't sleep on the bare floor.
  • Oh my, it is getting late, why don't you children stay overnight before trying to find the truth.
  • The next afternoon...
  • Excuse me sir, do you know anything about the Standard Oil trust?
  • Thank you, sir.
  • The children go to the area around the Standard Oil building to ask workers about what they know.
  • Uh, it's for school?
  • Well, two years after the Sherman Antitrust Act was passed, the Standard Oil Trust was dissolved by the Supreme Court.
  • Why are you so interested in this, kids?
  •  Well, Standard Oil gained monopolies and took out all his competitors. That's how he gained money and took over 90% of the oil industry.
  • Thank you.
  • Excuse me, sir. Do you happen to know anything about Rockefeller and monopolies?
  • A couple years ago, he expanded his business into iron ore and ore transportation.
  • The students return back to Ida's house.
  • Thank you, Ms. Tarbell.
