Storyboard Text

  • Cabinet Battle
  • The way to run this county, is to pay off war debts, to have tariffs to raise government revenues, and to create a national bank.
  • Hamilton, that's a terrible plan. You would assue states debts. Why would Virginia want to pay New Yorks debts. That is a complete violation of the Constitution.
  • Whiskey Rebellion
  • We're broke as it is. Now you're going to tax us even more. This is an outrage.
  • This is what our country needs. If we want to get out of debt, we need to raise money somehow.
  • French Revolution
  • Pro Britain
  • Neutral
  • Pro French
  • Alexander Hamilton wanted to put a tax on imported goods, also known as tariffs, to raise government revenue. He wanted to pay off the war debt, and he wanted to create a national bank. Thomas Jefferson had a disagreement with this plan and thought it gave the government too much power.
  • Washington Retires
  • Sir, you can't do this. We need you. France and Britain are at the verge of war. Are you sure it's the best time?
  • Hamilton, I've been in this position for a while now. I've decided I want to step down as president. Can you write an address for me?
  • In Hamiltons financial plan, he wanted to tax imported goods. One of those goods was whiskey. The farmers made a huge profit off of whiskey so when they taxed it, it made the farmers very mad. They started a rebellion. Hamilton and the army went into Pennsylvania. The rebels fled. This showed that government had the power to enforce laws.
  • XYZ Affairs
  • If you don't give us money, we will keep wrecking your ships and kidnapping your people.
  • Um... no
  • They know were broke, right?
  • In the French revolution, France wanted to get away from their leader and they wanted liberty and equality just like the U.S. They wanted us to join them. Hamilton said that we should side with the British because the trade with Britain was too important. Jefferson said that the relationship between us and the French was too important to lose. Washington made the decision to stay neutral between them.
  • Alien & Sedition Act
  • I hate John Adams!
  • George Washington didn't want to be president the second time but Hamilton talked him into it. Washinton decided he didn't want to be president anymore so he stepped down. Before he left he asked Hamilton to write an address to the people. He wanted to warn the people to stay away from political parties and to stay neutral in the war.
  • France was mad that we decided to stay neutral and we didn't help them when they helped us in our revolution. They would wreck our ships and take our soliders. They told us that if we gave them money they would pay for the damage but they wouldn't give our people back. They wanted money so they could win the war.
  • John Adams passed the alien & sedition act so that anyone who was talking or publishing anything bad about the president or about the government would be arrested or deported. It was a violation of the first amendmet. People were really angry at John Adams for this.
