Exposition: While Katie is on the phone in the kitchen, her three children, Jeff, Connie, and Dennis are in the family room arguing about the TV. Meanwhile, Katie's husband, Bill is stressing over a book that he is writing. The setting of their house is introduced and the old-fashioned phone hints to the time period.

Rising Action: Katie gets an unusual call full of sobbing and knows that it is someone in her family. After realizing it was not Polly, she thinks that it is Dawn, her sister.

Rising Action(continued): Bill and Katie go to Dawn's house and upon arriving, they expect her to be dead, but instead, they find her alive and sleeping with the baby. Katie is still confused on who made the phone call. Later, Katie finds Bill dead of a heart attack and time fast-forwards five years in the future where Polly is getting married and Katie has a new husband, Hank.
Climax: It is the five year anniversary of Bill's death so Katie grieves when coincidentally, Ghost Kiss comes on. This is when Katie from the future makes her emotional phone call to her past self, but because it is a paradox, it can't stop Bill's death.
Falling Action: Katie attempts to call the number again to warn her family of Bill but the call does not go through.
Resolution: After throwing the telephone across the room, Katie has a flashback that leads her to realize that she was calling herself and that was the close family member. Now, she grieves over the death of Bill and not being able to save him.
