  • Hey Leah do you know about the destruction of ozone in the stratosphere?
  • Sorry Valerie I don't but my science teacher does he's in room 285
  • Hi Mr.Jay, do you know what is ozone?
  • Hey Leah, of course ozone is a highly reactive gas composed of three oxygen atoms.
  • Also Mr. Jay how does the ozone layer in the stratosphere protect us ?
  • That's quite a simple question it protects us by being like a layer of sunscreen which protects us from the UV rays.
  • Mr. Jay what are CFCs and where do they come from?
  • Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) is a group compounds which contains chlorine, fluorine, carbon. Most are released into the atmosphere by aerosols and leaks from refrigerators.
  • Last question, how do CFCs destroy ozone in the stratosphere?
  • When UV rays hit molecules in the upper atmosphere and then chlorine atoms then reacts with an ozone molecule breaking it and destroying ozone.
  • Thank you Leah for requesting your science teacher he helped me so much!
  • Anytime Valerie, you may even need to help me out with the ozone layer sometime
