The Most Dangerous Game Richard Connell
Sanger Rainsford is a master hunter, who is well known all across the world by other hunters. He has written books about hunting, and travels to all different locations proving his skill. Rainsford is a dynamic character, as we can consider him "3-D." We know many detials about his personality, and the story revolves around his stance and experiences.
General Zaroff comes off as an aristocratic man who enjoys hunting as much as Rainsford. However, we know his intentions are not good. He is an evil blood who condones murder. He manipulates innocent sailors to play his game. General Zaroff is a round character, as we know all about his personality and he is well developed.
Ivan is General Zaroff's hulkish, Cossack body guard. He cannot speak, but knows sign language, as General Zaroff communicates with him that way. He does whatever he is told to do, and has no sense of remorse. Ivan could be considered a flat character, as there a few details about him, and there is not much to his character. He does not communicate or interact much with other character.
Whitney is Sanger Rainsford's trustworhty sidekick. He is considered a static character, as we know a few detials about him, and he has potential to become a more "rounded" character of the story were to go on. He warns Rainsford of the creepy aura of the island.
Whitney and Rainsford are discussing their latest hunting expedition, and the value of a prey's feelings. They are just coming to Shiptrap Island, a place that gives all sailors a bad feeling. Rainsofrd dismisses it as nothig but folklore.
“You’re a big-game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how a jaguar feels?”
