The first step to the water cycle is the sun. Yeah its just a hot ball of gas in space, but it's heat is the solution. The sun's heat warms up the water in ocens, lakes, rivers and more
After the sun evaporates the water from all over the world, the water turns into a gas. That gas is then heated then rises up, because heat rises, then cools while in the air. The gas then turns into what we know as clouds.
If any of the water vapor condenses while in the clouds, it will come down. It may come down in many ways like snow, ice, rain and more weather attacks.
In most cases the rain or snow will end up back into oceans or lakes. Where they will be there for, basically forever since water does not leave earth.
But some water goes into built in man made water wells. Where it is collected and used for humans. These wells lie beneath us, or under earth's surface.
