  • The North had earned money by factories since they produced manufactured goods and sold them. Some of the manufactured goods included Because of urbanization, the North grew tremendously because of the amount of people that came to their city from rural areas.
  • Economy of the South
  • Young Irish women worked as household workers, and had the men do the lowest paying jobs such as construction and laying down railroad tracks. Irish immigrants were farm laborers at home.
  • Labor in the South
  • Slavery was ended in the early 1800s for the North and they believed that slavery was wrong. African Americans weren't allowed to vote and didn't have equal rights.
  • Slaves in the South
  • The South's economy mainly depended on agriculture, cotton and slave labor. Cotton was their main wealth factor because it supported bankers, shipowners, and planters in the South. They also grew cash crops such as cotton, tobacco, rice, sugar cane, and indigo from their massive plantations.
  • The slave code in the South was that the slaves that were farmers were forced to work in the fields to earn money.
  • Slaves in the South were mostly farmers, and the rest of the population were white farmers who rented land and paid the landowners in crops or money.
