On June 17, 1775 the British and Colonist fought and charged against each other on Breed's Hill. America had to retreat due to low gun powder, and England won. This battle showed that the Colonist were committed, and strong even though they lost.

Written by John Dickinson, the Olive Branch Petition was signed on July 8th, 1775 and sent from the colonist.It stated their rights, and to also avoid war.This did not sit well with King George and he rejected, preparing for war, which later on did not succeed.

A document/letter was sent to the king declaring why the colonists wanted to be an independent country, signed by the continental congress. It explained about their new government and America's goals. It was written in 1776.

On December 1776 Washington and his army crossed the Delaware River and won two battles. On the 26th Washington surprised attack the Hessians in Trenton, New Jersey, and the Americans won, gaining control of New Jersey.

WINTER AT VALLEY FORGE
I'm hungry...I'm cold...I'm tired...
Washington's army was starving, and cold as they camped in Valley Forge. Supplies were dropping and the army was under disciplined. Baron Von Steuben volunteered to help train the army. This indeed helped, as the army grew stronger. There were many deaths, but by the end of winter the army was ready.
France and America united to fight England in the battle of Yorktown, Sep 28- Oct 19, 1781. They cornered the British at Yorktown, and Cornwallis surrendered, ending the war for independence.
