  • Foreshadowing
  • "I buy hair, take yer hat hat off and let's have a sight at the looks of it." (Henry 14).
  • "Della finished her cry and attended to her cheeks with the powder rag." (Henry 6). The story is set in third person omnistic, and the setting is in the 1900s, with two young lovers, Della and Jim.
  • Climax
  • "You've cut off your hair?" (Henry 27)
  • This is showing foreshadowing because it shows that Della might do something with her hair.
  • Irony
  • "I sold the watch to get the money to buy your combs." (Henry 42).
  • "Tomorrow would be Christmas Day, and she had only $1.87 with which to buy Jim a present." (Henry 6).
  • Theme
  • This is the climax because you have waited all story to find out what she does withe her hair, and how Jim with react.
  • This is irony because the gifts that they bought for each other aren't useful anymore because they got rid of what the could have used the gifts for.
  • "... let it be said that of al who gave gifts these two were the wisest." (Henry 43). The theme of the story is that love is more important than any gift.
