  • "Listen to me." "The waters of the river have a saffron and sickly hue."
  • "But there is no wind throughout the heaven. And by the shores of the river Zaire there is neither quiet nor silence.

  • "And I lay close within the shelter of the lillies and observed the action of the man. And the man trembled in the solitude; but the night waned and he sat upon the rock.
  • In a dreary region of Libya near The Congo River there is never silence nor quiet a Demon tells a man a story.
  • Lilies stretch their ghastly necks, mud oozes on the riverbank and around the valley a forest of horrible trees is continually agitated.
  • "And mine eyes fell upon the coutenance of the man, and his coutenance was wan with terror."
  • As night falls we are told that amid this dreadful scene sits a lone man upon a rock. The demon gradually creates more chaos around the man causing more horror
  • The demon then cursed the land with silence.
  • Everything was absolutely quiet.
