Storyboard Text

  • "Little late today, folks."
  • On the morning of June 27th, people began to gather in the town square where the lottery was about to take place.
  • The school boys gathered stones and put them into a pile while the girls gossiped.
  • "Clean forgot what day it was."
  • Mr.Summers, who conducted many of the town events, conducted the lottery. He brought the black box containing slips of paper and placed it in the center of the town square on a stool.
  • "Thought we were going to have to get on without you, Tessie."
  • Mr.Summers asked two volunteers from the audience to hold the black box steady while he shuffled the papers inside.
  • Mrs.Hutchinson, also known as Tessie, arrived late at the lottery because she forgot what day it was.
  • As the ceremony began to commence, Mr.Summers greeted Mrs.Hutchinson and took attendance. Mr.Dunbar was the only one absent, so his wife ended up drawing for him.
