The Younger family lives in an old 2-floored apartment with other black families. Their family has 5 people. Mama is the eldest, sleeping in the same room as Beneatha her daughter. Her son Walter and his wife Beneatha sleeps in the same room while their son Travis sleeps on the couch in the living room.
Mama and Beneatha found out Ruth was pregnant, Walter argued with Ruth and Mama and he realised she was pregnant but said nothing and left. Because Mama's husband died, an insurance check is coming, this causes Walter to go mad and argue with everyone in the family.
Walter does not appear to work for 3 days, leaving the possibility to get fired. Mama buys the family a new home at Clybourne Park for $3,500 which leaves $6,500 of the insurance check left. She hands it to Walter, telling him to put $3,500 in the bank for his sister.
Walter gave all the money to invest and the family is happy together, packing to move into Clybourne Park. Karl Lindner from the 'Welcoming Committee' comes to offer the Younger family not the move into the neighbourhood with a deal that they'd buy the house from the family with a price higher than what they paid in the first place.
The family rejects Karl's offer. Bobo comes to tell Walter bad news that Willy Harris ran off with the both of their money. Ruth heard their conversation and told the rest of the family. Walter called Karl back and says that he'd plead Karl for the deal.
When Karl Lindner comes, having his son Travis in front of him, Walter changes his mind and for the last time rejects Karl, wanting to be a good role model for his son. The family packs everything and move into Clybourne Park. Before they exit, Mama brings the small plant with her, that survived through the poor days,
