The Life Of Maize ~ a tale about corn ~
I am Maize, or more commonly known as corn.
I was genetically modified in the Andes through a process called Natural Selection.
I was eventually introduced into Mesoamerica and Mexico, but strangely I didn't make it to the actual U.S. until around 600 AC, where Native Americans grew me!
When Christopher Columbus came in 1492, he shipped me back to the "Old World" where I was grown and became a major crop in Europe.
I later traveled to East Africa and Asia through trade routes. In China I grew and flourished!
Get some farm fresh corn grown in the U.S.A right here!
Now I am mainly grown in the U.S. and China, and i'm not just used for food! I can also be in Ethanol, cosmetics, corncob pipes, ink, and other things!
