This is Irena Sendler, codename Jolanta. She works at the Warsaw Ghetto as a "secret agent" who smuggles children out of the Ghetto.
Our next "client" is a young 3-year-old named Elzbieta.
Mama, mama! I don't wanna go!!!
You have to go now, Elzbieta
You have to come with me! You won't be safe otherwise!
You will see your mother when the war is over. Here, get into this box
It's only a young, sick and hungry child! Have some mercy!
Please, I am only taking her to the hospital!
Ma'am! I need to see what's inside yourbox!
...Fine! But only this one time!
*Gasp!* It's a filthy Jew!
Irena then successfully smuggles Elzbieta from the ghetto. She soon recovered at the nearby hospital, and a foster home was found for her. Elbieta is only one of many children that were saved.
Welcome to your new home! We will take good care of you
Another one down, more to go!
Irena Sendler believed that you must help anyone you can, regardless what they look like or what they believe in. This is what drove her to saving 2,500 children. She saved their names and addresses in a jar so she could return them home at the end of the war.
