Storyboard Text

  • Mami and Papi live in the Dominican Republic with their four daughters.
  • One day Papi came home with a dog for the family from Mister Victor of the American Consul, but Mami thought the dog would be nothing but trouble.
  • Although Mami hated the dog, Papi and the girls loved him, so they name him liberty. Which represents the need for them to move to America due to the danger they're in.
  • "Well, what should we name him? Liberty?"
  • "Yes!"
  • "Yeah, girl!"
  • One day the little girl is chasing Liberty and she sees two scary men in the bushes and they force her not to tell anyone she saw them. So she stays silent and runs away.
  • "DON'T TELL ANYONE YOU SAW US!"
  • Later, Mami, Papi, and Mister Victor's men gather their belongings in the middle of the night and the little girl begs Mami to take Liberty with, but Mami admonishes her not to.
  • "No honey."
  • "Why, Mami?"
  • "Shh"
  • "We need to get to the plane."
  • "Oh no, now she's inconsolable.."
  • She was so sad and inconsolable, but her Mami tells her that if she leaves Liberty here she will find new liberty in America.
  • "Wah... bye Liberty, I'll find you in America."
